Last Letter First Game Rules
On its surface, Last Letter First is a simple online word game, but what makes the game so special is that the possibilities for gameplay are endless. You’ll never play the same game twice!
How the Game Is Played
To begin a game, a player enters a word. Then, the following player must enter a word that starts with the last letter of the previous player’s word.
For example, if you play the word “football,” the next player must choose a word that begins with the last letter, which in this case is the letter L, like “lake.” Continue on this way until every player has had a turn, and then the first player starts all over again.
Scoring System
You can play Last Letter First without keeping score, but if you do decide to play for points you’ll want to pay even closer attention to the words you choose. Points are calculated based on the words you play. Each word is worth a specific number of points determined by adding up the points assigned to each letter of the word.
If a player enters a misspelled word or a word that has already been played, they earn a strike. The game is over when all players have earned three strikes, and the player with the most points wins.
Game Modes
One of the best things about Last Letter First is that you can play by yourself or you can play with up to nine of your friends in multiplayer mode. You can easily invite your friends to a game by typing in their email address or sharing a 6 character game code that they can enter at https://lastletterfirst.com.
Word Game Success Strategy
If you’re playing Last Letter First for points, strategy is the key to winning. Carefully consider the words you choose to play, focusing on words that have high point value letters, words that are longer and words that are more complex. Take your time and think about how many points a word is worth before entering it into the game (don’t worry, the game shows you the point value for a word as you type it). Over time, you’ll find that new words you encounter in your daily life help improve your gameplay!
Community and Competitive Play
Last Letter First helps foster a community of players that engage in healthy competition. Playing with different opponents can push you to become a better speller and learn more new words than you ever thought possible.
Connecting With Other Players
While you can certainly play Last Letter First on your own, playing with others can often be much more fun. By connecting with other players, you’ll challenge each other to come up with more difficult and complicated words. Play against different players of all ages to expand your vocabulary and expand your knowledge of the English language (the game is also available in several other languages if you’d like to practice other languages too).
Leaderboards and Achievements
Last Letter First has a Leaderboard that displays your “Rank” against your friends who you’ve played against before and your “Rank” against all of the other players. The leaderboard is a great way to keep competitive players engaged because not only can you see how you stack up against the players you know, but you can also see where you stand within the worldwide Last Letter First community.
When players hit important milestones throughout the game they earn Badges that help celebrate the occasion. Letter From The Founder
Last Letter First started out as a game to fill the time while I was driving in the car with my kids. It was an easy game to play with one person saying and spelling a word, then the next person saying and spelling a word that started with the last letter of the prior players word. It was fun to try and remember all the words we played, learning how to spell the words, and coming up with new words. It made the time in the car go by VERY quickly.
I forget exactly when, but on one drive while playing the game with the family, it occurred to me that this would make a really good online game that you could play with friends anywhere anytime using the Internet.
My 12 year old daughter helped me with the first design, I enlisted some folks to start the development, then I spent lots of time looking for an available domain name …. and so Last Letter first was born!
I really hope you love the game and enjoy playing it as much as I have enjoyed it with my friends and family!
